CAVES OF DRACH - PORTO CRISTO
Here you will find the Caves of Drach. These attract thousands of visitors everyday during the summer months. They were discovered at the end of the 19th century and lie 75 feet below sea level and stretch for more then a mile. A guided tour exhibits expertly – lit fanciful shapes with names such as The Ruined Castle, The Fairy’s Theatre and Diana’s Bath. The highlight is at the lake Martel, a stretch of perfectly still water.

The Caves of Hams show nature in a whimsical mood. The exquisite caves are said to be unique. In one small cavern, stalagmites and stalactites have grown like branches and twigs of trees or into hooks. These seemingly impossible shapes have been formed by centuries of dripping water fanned by fragrant air currents.

Then there are the Caves of Arta, which were named after an ancient inland town. The massive entrance, cut into the coastal cliffs, gapes like some mythical getaway to hell. One visitor to the caves, Jules Verne, was said to be so impressed by the tortured shapes of it’s stalagmites and stalactites, drawing on these impressions when he wrote: Journey to the centre of the world. An unforgettable day out where you will enjoy a beautiful classical concert in the subterranean lake Martel. Included in the excursion is a visit to the famous Pearl Factory in Manacor. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Or go any day if you hire a car.

From there you have stunning views over the South Eastern coast of Mallorca. Enjoy the peace and tranquility to be found in the interior of this marvellous monastery.

Afterwards we go to the town of Felanitx where you will have plenty of time to visit the typical Mallorcan market with the possibility of bargaining and shopping. The town looks as though it was designed for leisurely strolling, with its row of windmills looking down from the ridge. Felanitx ceramic ware is the best on the island.

INCA MARKET
Inca is the agricultural and market centre of Mallorca in the middle of the island, and the second largest town. The Thursday market, at which modern and old fashioned farming equipment can be purchased, as well as all sorts of livestock, poultry produce and other odds and ends needed for rustic life, give Inca an important place in the economy. It is here that you are offered the greatest variety of leather goods, jackets, shoes, purses, and coats at the lowest prices. There are 18.000 inhabitants and many outsiders from the surrounding villages come into Inca daily to swell the workforce of this lovely town. Inca, in short, forms the agricultural nexus for the entire area. The parish church of Santa Maria la Mayos is of some importance, as is the nuns convent of San Jeronimo and the original Son Fuster inn, a left over from old village days. Inca is centrally located and must be passed through to reach other points on the island. It is certainly worth a shopping and eating visit. Enjoy our excursion by bus picking up at all hotels or hire a car and take a leisurely drive over to the Thursday market. This is the biggest market on the island and is a haven for bartering.

MOUNTAIN EXPRESS
There is a novel form of sampling the most spectacular scenery on the west coast of Mallorca by using three forms of transport in one day.

As the whistle screams and the doors slam, it is time to board the mountain train, a 19th century wooden work of art, just like those of the Wild West of America. Slowly but surely it chugs its path across the heart of the Mallorcan farmlands and olive plantations. First, the flatter plains with the lush vegetation and rich soils unfold before your very eyes. Then it begins to wind it’s way through the valleys of the majestic mountain range. Breath in the crisp fresh air, and sample the Mallorcan beauty first hand, as some of the most dramatic rugged mountains part to make way to the express train. The pungent aroma of the silver green olive trees contrast with the tangy citrus smell of the hundreds of orange and lemon groves, their fruit ripening as they bask in the morning sun.

Puerto Soller is a refreshing treat nestled at the foot of the highest mountains in the whole of the range. There is time for you to either try a seafood meal, picnic on the widespread beach, or just sit and watch the world go by in one of the pavement cafes that fringe the promenade. Or again you could browse among the many shops which line the promenade. There is something for everyone on this wonderful day out.

Then we leave Puerto Soller by boat and sail to the fantastic beach area of La Calobra, a wonderful sight. Happy memories are what make a holiday special, and you will find your own special memories on the Mountain Express.

PALMA SHOPPING
A day strolling around Palma just would not be complete without a few bags under your arms. The city is filled with shops of varying sizes and styles. Prices on many items depend heavily on what area you visit. The common rule is that tourist areas are more expensive, when shopping for bargains, shop where the locals shop. The Saturday market in Palma is a great place to bring home something original (at least to your friends and at a fair price). If fashion is what you are hunting for, try the main shopping street, Jaime III. Here shoppers can stroll from window to window without dealing with the intense heat as the walkway is covered.

There are great many stores to choose from including jewellers, leather goods shops and boutiques, interspersed with restaurants for a drink or lunch break. A good place to find reasonably priced and fashionable clothes at Zara, which has a couple of locations around town. During the siesta, take an opportunity to find a deal at C&A located at the end of the Born. It’s a great day out. We have excursion with coach collecting from all Hotels. Or hire a car and drive down to the lovely capital of Mallorca and enjoy a day in the shops

PALMA CATHEDRAL
This is the most imposing building in Palma and one of the best known landmarks in the whole of Spain. The foundations were laid in 1229 by King Jaime I who, according to the legend had been caught in a fierce storm off the Mallorcan coast and had found himself in mortal danger. It was during the storm that he promised the Virgin that if he were saved he would build her a church to show his thanks. The King survived and true to his word, he set aside the 75.000 square feet where the cathedral now stands. Construction of this magnificent building was not completed until the 16th century.

Visitors can see one of the largest stained glass windows in the world and a marvellous collection of treasure which is kept in the Sacristy. Among the manuscripts and jewels there are also fragments of bone said to come from skeletons of Saints and notable graves including those of Mallorcan Kings II and III. When visiting the cathedral do check on opening times. Don’t forget your camera, as there are some marvellous photographic opportunities especially in the evening when the building is beautifully lit up, dominating the Bay of Palma and making it a very impressive sight. There is a small entrance fee into the Cathedral and visitors are asked to dress discreetly. Cameras and videos are allowed inside so make sure you take one with you to capture the kaleidoscope of colour for lasting memories to take home with you.

PALMA & VALLDEMOSSA
On this wonderful excursion we visit two outstanding monuments of the gothic architecture; Palma Cathedral and then on to the Bellver castle. The castle dominates the city and its circular groundplan is a unique example of gothic military architecure. Bellver means bella vista or beautiful view, and indeed the view of the sea and the city from the castle are quite magnificent. Originally, the summer residence for the Mallorcan Monarchy, it later became a prison. In addition to its churches and monuments, Palma offers the visitor true quality as regards to open spaces. Trees, shrubs and green areas are the very lungs of the city, places where one can enjoy the relative solitude of a moment alone. Participate in the life of this island Capital, bathed by the waters of the Mediterranean. After visiting Palma we go up into the mountains to the picturesque town Valldemossa just 20km from Palma. This beautiful mountain village is the location of the former Cartusian monastery called La Cartuja, which was home to french author George Sand and her Polish lover Fredric Chopin in 1838. George Sand wrote her book “A winter in Mallorca” and in it, she describes her unhappy times and her neighbours as barbarians and theives. Chopin, however, produced some of his finest work such as Raindrop Prelude: La Cartuja includes the cell where the couple lived. Also take time to explore the village, wander through the cobbled alleyways where time seems to have stood still. An unforgettable day out.
